Mark O'Toole is one of my best friends ever. I am very lucky to have him as my friend. His wife is also awesome and beautiful. His son Cairo is also going to be a super rock star. I'm proud to say that I spend every Christmas with him as I didn't have any family in Florida. Also, he recorded and mixed all of my songs for free in his studio. ( myspace.com/jipsiharris Check out what he did for me. I hate to sound braggy but I'm missing him so much and decided to do a search on google and found this. I love your story by the way. Peace.

Those were definitely the days. I wrote songs for INXS, Duran Duran, and many other bands. In fact, it is not Hutch's daughter that is named Heavenly Haarani Tiger Lily, but a nickname Hutch gave me. In '84 introducing The Reflex in concert, Simon Lebon held up a stuffed tiger and said, "This is about our little friend..."

Hey Tom!
I was a huge fan of yours in the 80's. The Thompson Twins were the first live concert I ever saw and will resonate in my mind for the rest of my life. You gave birth to my love of live concerts.
I also had all the albums and the hairstyle.

Hope all is well and thank you

Hi Tom,

Any chance the International Observer will tour Melbourne Australia? I really like the way you are exporing different music these days, although I was a big fan of the Thompson Twins back when I was a teen. Good to see you are still making tunes.

Hi, Paul - Thanks for the info and for posting! Sounds like they were just as nice to you as they were to me. If you want to scan or photograph that flyer, it would be awesome! :-) FWIW, I am pretty sure it was not me you met. I would never, ever scream -- very much not my thing -- plus had already met the band a couple times at that point, so wouldn't have been hanging out back most likely. LOL :-)

I just wanted to thank you for this site. We must be the same age because we love(d) all of the same bands. I was not as adventurous or brave as you during my youth. But, getting to live through your site has brought quite the smile to my face. Thank you!!

Hello Nancy,

Great photos! I worked at One Step Beyond in Santa Clara, CA when Level 42 played there. I'm certain the year was 1987, but I cannot give you the exact date just yet. I remember the show vividly. I met the entire band at sound check, and got a a couple of pieces of vinyl signed by every member of the group. Boon Gould was out of the band by that point, and his replacement Paul Gendler signed my records on the back, instead of the front with everyone else.

I think I may have a spare 11 x 14 flyer advertising that show. If I can find one, I will certainly mail it to you if you wish. The show itself was magnificent; completely sold out, and such positive energy from everyone in the crowd and the band.

When I left the hall after sound check, I spotted a boy and a girl hanging around outside in the back. I showed them my signed LP's and they started screaming! The girl might have been you.
