Growing up, I was always sort of horrified — though also fascinated — by this old book we had at home about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, and the subsequent devastation of the ancient Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Apparently, Siouxsie was similarly spellbound by the story, and wrote this song about these two “cities in dust.”
